Assalamu Alaikum Dear Parents,
Congratulations to Grade 6B on successfully reaching 15 days of GO FOR GREEN! This is a behaviour initiative we use on a daily basis to encourage on-task learning and classroom management. To celebrate their achievement, we will be having a Pizza Party in the class at Lunch Recess on Wednesday, January 22. Keep up the great work, 6B!

Alsalamo Alikom Dear Parents
Hope you are doing well and in the best of your health.
Inshaa’Allah in health classes we will be working on “Fight BAC for Food Safety”.
It is a program that gives information about food safety and how to fight bacteria.
This program is divided into 4 simple steps which are:
“CLEAN, SEPARATE, COOK, CHILL”
Clean – wash hands & surfaces often
Bacteria can spread throughout the kitchen and get on hands, cutting boards, knives, and countertops. Frequent cleaning can keep that from happening. Always wash hands with warm water and soap for 20 seconds before and after handling food.
Separate – don’t cross contaminate
Cross-contamination is how harmful bacteria spread. Use one cutting board for fresh produce and a separate one for raw meat, poultry, and seafood.
Cook – cook to safe temperature
Even for experienced cooks, the improper heating and preparation of food means bacteria can survive. Use a food thermometer to measure the internal temperature of cooked foods. Make sure that meat, poultry, egg dishes, casseroles and other foods and leftovers are cooked to the internal temperature shown in our cooking chart.
Chill – refrigerate promptly
Bacteria multiply fastest at temperatures between 4°C (40°F) and 60°C (140°F), so chilling food properly is one of the most effective ways to reduce the risk of food borne illness. Chill leftovers and takeout foods within 2 hours. Keep the fridge at 4◦C (40◦F) or below and use an appliance thermometer to check the temperature.
Today we started with the first activity which was about the effective way to remove bacteria from your hands. The students received an activity form that they have to fill at home and return it back on next Tuesday insha’Allah. Health classes will be divided as follows: one week to work on this program and the other week will be in the kitchen to apply what we studied while cooking or preparing a kind of juice, smoothie,…..etc.
